About Position




Our client is a vertically integrated seed-to-sale cannabis enterprise which operates licensed retail dispensaries, The client, in the Los Angeles area.  With a range of recreational and medicinal cannabis products under development, client will launch its first brand in 2019.  Concurrently the company is constructing a micro-cultivation and manufacturing space in East Los Angeles and plans to break ground on its commercial cultivation center in California City this year.  We aim to be the brand of choice in the cannabis space within 2 years and are assembling the team capable of delivering to that promise.




 


The client is seeking an experienced Senior Vice President of Corporate Development/Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) to oversee the development and execution of the Company’s growth strategy. The Senior Vice President will evaluate and execute acquisitions, make strategic decisions, and drive corporate growth and profitability. This individual will work directly with the Executive Leadership Team to provide recommendations based on research and analysis of the industry.




The ideal candidate will possess exceptional strategic experience leading business and corporate development planning and execution and proven ability to identify and execute strategic opportunities to grow our business through secured financing, mergers, and/or acquisitions. 




Key Responsibilities




·         Work collaboratively across the entire organization to compile and manage company growth strategy, which includes analyzing and providing recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team.


·         Lead M&A strategy and execution; lead deal sourcing, diligence, negotiations and integration, including leadership of an internal M&A team representing all areas of the organization.


·         Conduct and present research on new growth opportunities, external M&A activity and risks to company.


·         Coordinate with HR, IT, legal and other functional departments to ensure a successful closing and initial transition for newly acquired employees.


·         Prepare detailed reports and presentations describing the key attributes of growth opportunities and target acquisitions.


·         Work collaboratively with finance and product leaders to prepare and analyze financial models for potential acquisitions and growth opportunities.


·         Monitor financial performance of acquired companies and prepare reports against budget.


·         Organize and conduct initial due diligence on potential acquisition targets.


·         Drive projects and serve as representative team member for a variety of ad-hoc strategic projects and initiatives.


·         Prepare and maintain call and activity tracking systems.


·         Prepare periodic status reports for CEO and Board.


 


Requirements and Skills:




·         Bachelor’s degree required


·         MBA preferred


·         10+ years of Mergers and Acquisitions and Business Development related experience


·         In-depth understanding of an acquisition process


·         Demonstrated success working both independently and in highly collaborative environments


·         Excellent presentation skills essential (including Board level)


·         Extensive software/Internet/technology network of contacts


·         Experience in e-discovery, litigation services and data recovery


·         Proven ability to quickly identify a large volume of deal targets and also fill a M&A leads pipeline


·         Demonstrated success as a high-volume M&A deal closer, particularly on the "buy side"


·         Exceptional analytical, strategic and critical thinking skills essential


·         Deep experience and independent ability to prepare M&A financial models analyzing potential deal investments


·         Ability to travel both domestically as needed
